Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has returned to the Federal High Court, Kaduna, for the hearing of his bail application in the corruption case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The court, presided over by Rilwan Aikawa, is expected to determine whether the former governor will be granted bail in the ongoing trial.
El-Rufai returned to the ICPC custody after his court appearance on the 31st of March, following the prosecution’s late filing of a counter-affidavit.
The case involves a 10-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, abuse of office and related financial offences.
Security has also been tightened around the court premises, with operatives restricting movement as proceedings resume.
Today’s hearing is seen as crucial in determining whether the former Kaduna governor will continue to face trial from custody or regain temporary freedom on bail.
