Actor Olumide Oworu has opened up on his decision to step away from the comfort of the entertainment industry and venture into politics, saying the state of governance in Nigeria compelled him to take action.

Speaking in a recent interview on Naija FM, Oworu said his choice was driven by concerns about the country’s direction and the long-term impact of policy decisions on young Nigerians.

The actor, who contested the Lagos State House of Assembly seat in 2023 under the Labour Party but lost to Desmond Elliott, said governance is not distant from his daily reality.

“I decided to join politics because of how the country is going. I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. And I want to start a family and raise my kids here.

“So, I have to make sure I try my best to be among the policymakers because whatever policy is enacted will ultimately affect me like every other common person.

“And also, most of the present crop of politicians are aging out, and whatever policy they are making today, my friends and I will be at the receiving end tomorrow,” he explained.

Oworu stressed that public policy decisions taken today will shape the social and economic realities of his generation in the years ahead, noting that young people must move beyond commentary and participate directly in governance.
