jibrin-bfsSuspended former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin has stated that he is not on a revenge mission against Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara.

The House had suspended Jibrin for 180 legislative days in September after he launched one of the biggest parliamentary controversies in Nigeria’s history.

The lawmaker from Kano alleges that Dogara, and three other principal officers, whose resignation and prosecution he has continued to demand, are not only corrupt but have continued to breach the rules and ethics of the House.

But in an exclusive interview on TVC News Nigeria’s premium breakfast show, TVC Breakfast, Jibrin revealed that his target is not Dogara, rather his crusade is aimed at eliminating corruption from the House of Representatives as an institution.

While maintaining that Dogara is surrounded in a pool of corruption and keeps coming out to speak against it, he said his primary focus is to continue exposing graft in the Green Chamber.

“My target is not Yakubu Dogara but to get corruption out of the House of Representatives and push for reforms,” Jibrin said.

He also disclosed that he is now an activist and “will not stop this struggle even if I’m suspended for three years.”

The embattled lawmaker has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja‎ to award the sum of one billion Naira against Dogara, the House of Representatives and the Clerk of the House.

He has also asked the court to award the sum of one billion naira against the Speaker and Clerk of the House, as damages for his suspension from the House.

Jibrin in the new suit, urged the court to declare that his suspension is a violation of his fundamental human right to freedom of expression.

He also said that his suspension is a breach of the provisions of Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
