The Zamfara State government has confirmed the death of ten persons and several others injured at a mining site that collapsed in Kadauri village in the Maru Local Government area of the state.

The incident occurred over the weekend which has resulting in the loss of many local miners, and an unspecified number of persons were also trapped under the mining pit.

A Senior Special Assistant to Zamfara state Governor on Broadcast Media, Ja’afaru Mustapha Kaura, confirmed this to newsmen in Gusau, via Telephone calls.

He attributes the incident to the influx of illegal miners in the state and negligence in their activities.

“Illegal miners have taken over all the mining sites in our state. I’m scared that, unless something is done urgently to stop the menace, the state would continue to face the same or similar cases”

” A lot of mining pits would collapse here in Zamfara due to the heavy downpour we are experiencing lately,” he added.

Banditry activities, according to him, are on the increase because of the influx of miners coming from within and outside the country.

The Zamfara state government, through the Ministry of Environment, according to him, had visited the site and extended the state government’s condolences to the families of the affected persons.

This is not the first time a mining site has collapsed in Zamfara, which has in the past claimed several lives, leaving others deformed.

TVC previously reported that a fatality had been recorded in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State following a fierce clash between gold miners in the Garin Katta community area of the state.

Following the report of the clash, the Yauri Local Government Council imposed a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. as the clash between youths in the community grew intense.
