Following the decision by the Rivers State House of Assembly to halt impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, the Governor has moved to consolidate his cabinet with several fresh appointments to key positions.

Fubara appointed Dagogo Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government and Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff.

The motion to halt the impeachment process against Fubara and his Deputy Odu, was adopted during the House’s sitting in Port Harcourt.
Speaker Martin Amaewhule said the decision followed the latest intervention by President Bola Tinubu in the state’s political crisis.
He explained that the move was part of resolutions reached at a meeting earlier this month involving the President, principal officers of the House, parties to the dispute, as well as elders and leaders of the state.
Before putting the motion to a vote, the Speaker also disclosed that the Governor, his deputy and the legislature had agreed to withdraw their respective impeachment-related cases from the courts as part of the resolutions.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, also expressed optimism that the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State is approaching a lasting resolution, following what he described as a decisive intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja after inspecting ongoing projects in the FCT, Wike emphasised the president’s role as a unifying figure whose leadership is key to resolving tensions between the state’s executive and legislative arms.

He said, “I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the president will be bothered with this issue and that this will be the last time the Rivers people will need to hear this kind of discord.”
