Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has submitted three names to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for appointment as commissioners, days after the resignation of the State Commissioner for Works & Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar.

Abubakar publicly resigned his position after declining to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), unlike several of his colleagues who followed Fintiri’s lead. His departure left a vacancy that the governor moved swiftly to fill.

The nominees forwarded to the Assembly on Tuesday are Sali Idris (Maiha LGA), Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North LGA), and Chubado Mohammed (Jada LGA). The Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, instructed the Assembly clerk to notify the nominees to appear with their curriculum vitae for screening on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Abubakar was one of three commissioners reportedly opposed to switching parties; the others were the Commissioners for Livestock Development and Justice, Tijjani Maksha and Afraimu Jingi.

While Abubakar’s resignation is confirmed, the submission of new names suggests that the other two commissioners have either resigned or are presumed to have vacated their positions.
