A female doctor at the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia who was employed two months ago has died of Lassa fever.

The management of the centre headed by Chukwu Abali and the Abia state commissioner for health, Dr John Ahukanna condoled with the family of the doctor who lost her life trying to save the primary index case, a child, in the centre.

Ahukanna said the ministry was working hard to contain the spread, noting that everyone who has made contact with the index case is currently on surveillance.
