Ekiti first lady charges health workers, women on free cervical cancer screening

Wife of the Ekiti State governor, Olayemi Oyebanji, has urged health workers in the 10 designated health facilities in Ekiti state for free screening and treatment of Cervical Cancer.

The Ekiti first lady said it will help to judiciously and optimally use the equipment provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), so that the scourge will be totally eliminated from Ekiti communities.

The First Lady has also urged Ekiti women and girls to avail themselves the opportunity of the free exercise to know their status.

The first lady, who spoke during the sensitization programme on Free Cervical Cancer Screening, organised by Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Ekiti State chapter, at the Adunni Olayinka Diagnostic and Wellness Center, Ado Ekiti, commended the immediate past administration in the state for various measures that have been put in place ahead of the Global Call for Action by the World Health Organisation and other similar bodies.

Dr. Oyebanji disclosed that about five thousand women were to benefit from the free screening and treatment, courtesy of the Ekiti State Government in partnership with WHO and Clinton Health Access Initiative.

The First Lady gave the list of the health facilities to include; the state’s University Teaching Hospital, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido, the state three specialist hospitals in Ijero, Ikere and Ikole, as well as comprehensive health centers in Ilawe, Ijan, Aramoko and Otun Ekiti.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health and Human services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani represented by the Permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Olabisi Arogundade said the event was to create awareness about cervical cancer and mobilise women for screening as well as treatment.
