The Seme Customs command has intercepted a truck loaded with rotten hide and skin popularly known as ‘Ponmo’.
146 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and more than 5,200 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice were also impounded by the command.
As efforts to curtail smuggling along the Lagos-Abidjan border corridor continue to challenge the capabilities of enforcement agencies, the Seme Customs command says it is applying a holistic approach in executing its mandate.
The command says that its recent anti smuggling campaign resulted in various seizures comprising a truckload of rotten cow hide and skin, about 9 trailers of rice, 146 wraps of cannabis sativa, vehicles and other household goods that were either falsely declared or concealed.
While sounding warnings to those engaged in illegal trading activities around the Seme border axis, comptroller Uba noted that the drive to increase revenue collections, trade facilitation and suppress smuggling will not be undermined.
The Command also generated the sum of N4.4 billion from January till date, representing 65 per cent of the total allotted target.
