A special offences and domestic violence court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has remanded Dr. Femi Olaleye, who is the managing director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, at the correctional Centre, pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

Femi Olaleye was arraigned by the Lagos state government on Wednesday on a two count charge of defiling a minor (names withheld), who is said to be the niece of his wife.

The medical doctor pleaded not guilty to the alleged charges of the defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration.

After the arraignment, lead Defence counsel, Babatunde Ogala, a senior advocate of Nigeria , applied for his bail in liberal terms, on the grounds that the alleged crimes are bailable.

But, the state government’s director of public prosecutions, Babajide Martins, opposed the bail application, arguing that the defendant is a flight risk, who could interfere with the trial.

In his ruling, justice Rahmon Oshodi granted bail in the sum of N50 million to the accused Doctor, who is also to produce two sureties in like sum, in addition to other bail conditions.

The court also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, ikoyi, until the perfection of his bail conditions.

The hearing is adjourned till December 19 and 21, 2022 for the prosecution to open its case by presenting its witnesses.

Dr Femi Olaleye an indigene of Ada in Osun State is on trial for allegedly defiling a minor who is also the niece to his wife.

His original scheduled arraignment did not hold earlier in the month following his absence from Court.

A situation that his Lawyer, Mr Babatunde Ogala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria explained as being a case of scheduling error with the letter for his arraignment only arriving after he had travelled out of Lagos.

With his arraignment and detention in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions, the Stage is now set for a case that has become as polarising as the one involving actor, Olanrewaju James Omiyinka popularly known as Baba Ijesha.
