The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has warned against  attempts by the National Judicial Council, to shield alleged corrupt judges arrested recently by the Department of State Services.

CDHR condemned the refusal of the judges to step aside  pending proper investigation.

Political correspondent Ayodele Ozugbakun was at this year’s general conference of the organisation.

Delegate members from states across Nigeria converged on Lagos for the 2016 Annual General Conference of the committee for the  Defence of human rights .

The  conference held amidst grave concerns for the state of Nigeria’s socio-political and economic crisis as well as associated challenges that border on human rights and justice.

Welcoming delegates to the opening session of the annual General  conference  featured a public lecture, the National President of CDHR Malachy Ugwumadu  says the meeting became  crucial considering the state of the country.

Delegates and participants exhaustively engaged presentations and submissions at the public lecture. They condemned the growing level of poverty and misery across the Nation occasioned  by lack of jobs, loss of jobs, the winding up of factories and businesses.

The group resolved the Federal and state governments must take urgent steps to address the socio-economic problems confronting Nigeria in all ramification.

Part of CDHR resolution was the judges indicted by the state security  services should step down pending the outcome  of investigations by the NJC.
