Bulgarian Tennis star Grigor Dimitrov has tested positive for COVID-19, leading to the cancellation of an exhibition event in Croatia where top-ranked Novak Djokovic was due to play in the final.
Grigor Dimitrov confirmed this in a message on his Instagram saying, “I want to reach out and let my fans and friends know that I tested positive back in Monaco for Covid-19”.
“I want to make sure anyone who has been in contact with me during these past days gets tested and takes the necessary precautions,” said the 29-year-old Haskovo-born tennis star, currently 19 in the ATP singles ratings.
“I am so sorry for any harm I might have caused. I am back home now and recovering. Thanks for your support and please stay safe and healthy,” Dimitrov said.
The Tennis star said he was making his condition public because he wanted to “make sure anyone who has been in contact with him gets tested.
Reacting to the news, Goran Ivanisevic, one of Djokovic’s coaches, said it was “shocking” and that “now everyone will have to be tested.”
The professional Tennis tours have been suspended since March and are planning to resume in August.
