Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the killing of innocent people in Yelewata by suspected armed herders, describing the attack as a “needless bloodbath.”

The Governor made the comments on Sunday through his deputy, Barrister Sam Ode, who visited the scene on his instructions.

“Governor Alia shares your pain and grief over this attack by suspected armed herders. He is not resting on his oars to bring peace back to all communities in Benue,” Ode said.

He assured the people that the state government was working closely with federal security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders to find lasting solutions to persistent attacks.

Additional tactical teams have been deployed to vulnerable areas, while a Response Squad is due to arrive in Benue from Sunday. Strategic community dialogue initiatives are also underway to help gather actionable intelligence.

The state’s joint operations are being strengthened, and the government is committed to protecting lives and properties across Benue.

Religious, traditional and political leaders were called upon to help keep the peace by guiding their communities against unlawful assemblies or confrontations.

The government appealed to the public to report suspicious activity through official channels and to rely on credible sources for information.

“Benue remains committed to justice, peace and security for all its people,” the Governor assured.
