The Nigerian Army 8 Division has committed to deepening collaboration with journalists in Sokoto State as part of its efforts to enhance security and build public trust.

Major General Bemgha Koughna, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 8 Division, made the pledge on Thursday while receiving executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, during a courtesy visit to the Division’s headquarters.

The GOC emphasiSed the media’s critical role in shaping public perception of security operations, noting that timely and accurate information helps counter misinformation and sustain peace.

“I want to assure you that this Division, under my watch, is ready to have strong collaboration with journalists, especially the Correspondents’ Chapel,” Major General Koughna said.

He also apologised for the delay in hosting the journalists since his assumption of office, attributing it to the demands of military duties.

The Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, Ankeli Emmanuel, congratulated the GOC on his appointment and reaffirmed the journalists’ readiness to work closely with the Division.

“We are committed to ensuring that security operations are reported in a balanced and factual manner,” Emmanuel said.

He urged the Army to provide prompt information and extend invitations for official programmes to enable comprehensive media coverage.
