Lucky Aiyedatiwa has directed security agencies to go after those behind the violence that marred the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, vowing that perpetrators will face prosecution.
The directive followed unrest that erupted during Wednesday’s congress held across the state’s 203 wards. Trouble was reported in parts of Idanre Local Government Area, where suspected political thugs allegedly linked to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers disrupted the exercise.
The violence later spilled into communities on the outskirts of Akure, particularly Iju/Ita-Ogbolu in Akure North Local Government Area, where clashes were recorded.
Police authorities confirmed that two persons lost their lives, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the attacks.

One of the victims, Mr. Raphael Adetimehin, younger brother of the APC State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, was reportedly brutalised during the clash and is currently in a coma at a hospital in Akure.
Condemning the incidents, Aiyedatiwa distanced his administration from the disturbances, insisting the unrest was not connected to his government.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor described himself as a leader committed to party unity and peace. He disclosed that security agencies had been instructed to immediately restore calm in the affected areas and investigate the Idanre crisis.
“The pockets of issues in the ward congress of the party have nothing to do with the governor, and that was why he called on security agencies to restore order at the Party Secretariat on Tuesday.
“Mr. Governor has also called on security agencies to investigate the crisis that took place in Idanre earlier today and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
