Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have jointly rejected the proposed New Electoral Act Amendment, cautioning that the bill threatens Nigeria’s democratic foundations.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, opposition leaders described the amendment as “ill-timed and dangerous,” asserting that instead of strengthening the electoral framework, it contains provisions capable of undermining transparency and eroding public trust in the electoral system.

They emphasised that any reform of the Electoral Act must focus on deepening democracy rather than reversing gains already achieved.
The parties also condemned and rejected the outcome of the F.C.T. Area Council elections, signaling concerns over fairness and credibility in recent local polls.
