Delta State government has recruited one thousand new teachers to intensify its drive for quality education in public schools and reduce the effect of shortage of teachers in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Patrick Ukah, disclosed this when he visited the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, venue of the screening of successful candidates for employment into the Delta State Unified Teaching Service.
Ukah said the state government is determined to bridge the manpower deficit in state-owned schools.
Our Correspondent reports that the 1000 trainee-teachers went through various screening stages to ensure that they were not only qualified in learning but also equipped with capacity to handle the subjects assigned to them.
Those recruited are to teach English Language, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Computer Science, Basic Science, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology and Physics.
The teachers are to undergo final training and induction later this month before their posting to improve teaching in mostly rural areas.
