The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that the purported admission of candidates into the Law Faculty of Lead City University during the period of its programme suspension was not conducted through the Board’s approved admission channel and is therefore invalid.
The Board said it had received numerous complaints alleging negligence over the reported admission of students into the university’s Law programme despite the programme being under a five-year suspension.
In a statement, JAMB explained that the admissions were not processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS)—the only authorised platform for processing admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
As such, the Board stated that it has no record of the admissions and cannot recognise them.
JAMB reiterated that the institution is not permitted to admit candidates into the Law programme until the suspension period has elapsed.
The Board noted that the development reinforces its longstanding warning to prospective students not to accept admission offers outside CAPS.
According to JAMB, any admission that is not processed and approved through CAPS is considered invalid.
It further stressed that candidates who accept such irregular admissions cannot lay legitimate claims to them, as they are regarded as having participated in a process that contravenes established admission procedures.
The Board therefore advised candidates who may have received admission offers outside CAPS to disregard them and instead obtain the next Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application to pursue admission through legitimate channels.
JAMB also revealed that it is aware of attempts by some institutions to regularise such admissions by transferring affected candidates to other universities through inter-university transfer arrangements.
The Board maintained that such transfers would not be approved, as inter-university transfers can only be processed when the initial admission was validly secured through CAPS.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing admission regulations and ensuring that all tertiary institution admissions comply strictly with established laws, rules and procedures.
