Three former Catalan leaders have appeared before Spain’s Supreme Court to request their release from prison.
Jordi Sanchez, Jordi Cuixart and Omnium Cultural are being held pending an investigation into their roles in the region’s independence drive.
They are accused of leading demonstrations when police raided Catalan government buildings and arrested officials.
This was in an attempt to prevent the banned October the 1st referendum from taking place.
