Image result for Lecturers insist on total implementation of 2009 agreementA cross section of lecturers at the Federal University Kashere in Gombe State have insisted that only full implementation of the 2009 agreement would revitalize the university system in Nigeria.

They said this against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations between the federal government and the academic staff union of universities triggered by the industrial action embarked upon by the union.

TVC’s Lanre Adeyemi reports that falling standards, dilapidated structures, unpaid allowances, and in-conducive learning environment.

These are some of the challenges rocking the university education in Nigeria.

The 2009 agreement between the federal government and the academic staff union of universities was meant to address the decay.  Eight years after, the federal government is yet to implement the deal.

As academic activities at most public universities remains shutdown, students and their parents are mostly at the receiving end.

The hope is that this strike and ongoing negotiation with the federal government would eventually result in the revitalisation of the university system and provide a lasting solution to this lingering crisis.
