More than N2.5b paid as ransom in Zamfara – Shinkafi

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Zamfara state, Abdullahi Shinkafi has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare Katsina, Yobe, Borno, Kaduna, Kogi and other states troubled by Armed Banditry and Kidnapping as “no flight zones.”

The Zamfara top politician said this is necessary following the declaration of Zamfara state as ‘no flight zones’ because of the recent rising cases cases of armed banditry and kidnapping.

Mr Shinkafi who disclosed this while briefing newsmen also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to tighten its belt to address the prevailing insecurity currently facing the country.

Shinkafi said no part of Nigeria is devoid of the security threats currently being faced and queried while states like Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Katsina and others that are also experiencing high rate of insecurity have not been declared ‘no flight zone’ areas.

He specifically asked President Buhari to tackle the prevalent abductions, cattle rustlings, killings, and other crimes to ensure a peaceful Nigeria.

The APGA chieftain revealed that no fewer than 25,000 or[phans have been displaced in the state following cases of armed banditry and kidnapping, while the of N2.5billion has been paid as ransoms in the state.

He appealed to the new service chiefs to deal decisively with anyone found with sophisticated rifles as ordered by President Buhari, as to enable peace to reign in the country.
