Former staff of Liquidated Heritage Bank have protested to the national assembly asking that lawmakers intervene over the non payment of their last salary in June before the Liquidation of the bank.
Severance packages to staff and access to their savings are also a concern for the staff who held up placards with different inscriptions in front of the national assembly
They say the Nigerian deposit insurance corporation NDIC has refused them access to their savings insisting that their funds are not insured.
They want the Central bank of Nigeria to grant them access to their trapped funds in their various accounts in the Liquidated Heritage Bank to cushion the effect of their sudden job losses.
The Central Bank of Nigeria revoked the banking licence of Heritage Bank Plc on June 3 stating that it had breached Section 12 (1) of BOFIA, 2020.
The CBN in a statement said the Board and Management of the bank had not been able to improve the bank’s financial performance, a situation which constitutes a threat to financial stability.
The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) was however appointed as the Liquidator of the bank in accordance with Section 12 (2) of BOFIA, 2020.
