The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has donated essential households materials tagged; ‘Dignity Kits’ to the over 2 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue State.
This is just as the International partner is to launch over 5000 shelters for the displaced persons.
Items donated to IDPs include: mattresses, gallons, blankets, mosquito nets, cooking utensils, buckets, among others.
These non-food items are meant to support the IDPs while still in the camps even as the State Government and development partners executes the durable solutions.
The delegation showing support to the IDP includes members of the North -East Ambassadors Group, UN Delegation all headed by the IOM Chief of Mission, Mr. De Boeck.
He urged the State Government and development partners to work closely together to address the State’s humanitarian challenges effectively and efficiently.
The United Nations also gives 2,000 prepared sets of dignity kits to help women and girls maintain their dignity while in camps.
While meeting the team, Gov. Hyacinth Alia stated that the State Government would soon create the Rapid Response Fund, which was made possible by a collaboration between IOM and the US Agency for International Development’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance.
