The Nigerian Export Promotion Council says it has been able to achieve a lot in the Year 2022 despite the challenges faced by the Non Oil Export Sector of the nations’ Economy due to the Global Economic Crunch and the Russia-Ukraine War.
Executive Secretary of the Council, Ezra Yakusak, disclosed this while speaking to TVC News Tolulope Ogunjobi, on the Business Nigeria Programme on TVC News on Monday afternoon.
Dr Yakusak said the achievement in the non oil sector was dampened by the myriad of challenges faced was modest.
He disclosed that Nigeria was able to export over 4 Million Metric Tonnes of goods worth over 2.5 Billion Dollars.
He added that the nation was able to diversify the products being exported through encouragement for exporters to add value to the products being exported.
He said over 200 products were exported from Nigeria in 2022 making it the largest mix of products ever exported outside Nigeria by Nigerian farmers and Exporters.
Going Further, the NEPC Boss, said the promotion of value addition by the agency helped in ensuring that the manufactured products exported out of the Country was over thirty percent of the products moved out of the Country.
He described value addition to products from the country as a game changer that will generate employment, lead to industrialisation and ensure more value is gotten from such products.
He described 2022 as the highest level of trade the nation has recorded in the Non Oil sector in the last 4 years.
He described the fact that manufactured products accounted for about 36% of all Non Oil Exports while raw Agricultural Products accounted for about 33% as a good sign that Nigerians are exporting more finished goods than raw products.
