There was a massive protest in Abuja over an alleged plot by politicians to scuttle the recently introduced monetary policies by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The protesters who came out in in large numbers, also disagreed with the motion brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja by the Department of State Service (DSS) where they sought to arrest the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele based on allegations of financing terrorism, economic crimes and the crimes against national security.
Godwin Emefiele has been the Governor of the apex bank since 2014.

But in recent months there has been growing controversy over some of the policies and actions of the Governor
A recent announcement on the 26th of October on the redesigning of the 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes had started the controversy.
Many observers raised concerns about the timing of the naira redesign plan.
Then a public outrage now followed a monetary policy affecting cash withdrawal limits introduced again by the CBN on December 7th.
The policy limited cash withdrawals to N100,000 for individuals and N500,000 for organisations per week, from January 2023.
It had led to many other allegations being brought against the CBN Governor.
These protesters took to the streets of the federal capital territory to refute these allegations describing them as products of unfounded petitions generated by politicians whose fraudulent activities have been threatened by the brilliant policies of the central bank governor.
The CBN has in the meantime, has reviewed the cash withdrawal limits.
On the 21st of December, it increased the maximum weekly limit for cash withdrawals across all channels by individuals and corporate organisations to N500,000 and N5 million, respectively.
