Nigerians have been urged to give more support to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in its fight against the proliferation of illicit Drugs in the Society.
Participants on the TVC News award winning programme, Journalists Hangout made the call on Sunday while contributing to the topic of the Alarm raised by the Executive Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement agency, NDLEA, Brigadier General Muhammed Buba Marwa (Rtd).
The Former Lagos State Military administrator had raised an alarm on the activities of the Drug Barons in the Country who have been killing the operatives of the agency.
The former Military administrator said Drug Barons have been killing operatives of the agency asking for more to be done to address the issue especially provision of barracks accommodation to enhance safety.
Anchored by Olajumoke Olatunji with Dare Odufowokan and Adewale Adeoye as discussants, they called on the Federal Government to do whatever it takes to assist the agency and reverse the alarming level of drug abuse among the Youth.
They also shared various experiences of how officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, operatives are able to get drug peddlers who are hiding in plain sight.
The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd) had raised the alarm over the increasing threats to its operatives while attending a budget defence session at the National Assembly.
He said the agency’s effectiveness is being hampered by its inability to effectively protect its Operatives especially from attacks orchestrated by Drug barons across the Country.
It has been a regular occurrence to see a constant parade or announcement of arrests made by the Operatives of the agency since the assumption of office of the former Lagos State Military administrator as the Chairman of the agency.
Its Operatives have won plaudits and have made some sensational strides including the seizure of the largest Cocaine or Drug Bust in the history of Nigeria in a warehouse in Ikorodu recently.
Its operations has won plaudits with the most ground breaking discovery being the arrest of former Super Cop DCP Abba Kyari formerly head of the IRT for drug dealing, he is currently on trial.
