The National Union of Teachers has threatened to embark on a nation wide Strike should Kaduna state government fail to call back their national president and the over 2,300 teachers sacked in the State.
Addressing the media after the news of mass sack of teachers in Kaduna state broke, they described the competency test as an instrument of vendetta targetted at labour leaders who dared to advocate for the welfare of teachers.
The Kaduna State Universal basic education board had dismissed 2,357 teachers who failed the recently conducted competency test organised by the board.
The Board had in a statement released on Sunday, disclosed that it conducted the competency test for over thirty thousand teachers in December, 2021 while 2,192 teachers refused to sit for the test.
The sacked teachers include the national President of the teachers Union Audu Titus Amba.
The teachers’ union is vehemently opposed, claiming that the competency test is arbitrary and uncertain.
They vowed to down tools if the decision is not reversed.
The Teachers Union believe the act taken by the state is aimed at intimidating its President and all teachers in Nigeria.
