Lalong seeks FG’s support for Plateau IDPs

Image result for Plateau governor requests for funds to build homes for IDPsPlateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has pleaded with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to assist the state in rehabilitating and reintegrating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as they return to their ancestral homes.

Lalong, who is also the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) chairman made the request when he visited the minister, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk, at the ministry’s headquarters at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

He requested for funds from the federal government to resettle and reintegrate Internally Displaced Persons who were ejected from their camp.

They were occupying the secretariat of the Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society after being displaced from their villages due to the farmer-herder clashes in 2018. But the owners of the property later sent a quit notice, leaving them stranded and with no homes to return to.

Governor Simon Lalong said it is important to resettle them, so they can be productive citizens.

He disclosed that since the symbolic closure of all IDP camps in Plateau in December 2019, his administration had been doing its best to rebuild their homes and give them life anew.
