Winning the Golden Boot award will be a good way for Odion Ighalo to say goodbye to international football after the striker announced he was quitting the Super Eagles.
The China based striker helped the Eagles win a bronze medal at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ighalo scored the highest number, seven goals as Nigeria qualified to play in the Nations Cup.
He was also a member of the Nigerian team to the 2018 World Cup. Ighalo made 35 appearances for the Super eagles and scored a total of 16 goals.
The news of Ighalo’s exit follows that of John Mikel Obi who also announced his retirement from the Super eagles.
After staying out of the national team for one year after the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mikel Obi returned to Captain the Eagles to the Nations Cup in Egypt. He played just two games as Nigeria won a Bronze Medal in the competition.
The former Chelsea midfielder started featuring for the national team in 2006 and went on to play 88 matches, scoring six goals.
