Mass defection is looming in the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as former political adviser to ex President Goodluck Jonathan, Hon Ahmed Gulak has announced his decision to quit the party.
He said this at the recent PDP stakeholders meeting in Yola.
He said the meeting ended with thousands of party faithful voting for cross carpeting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to TVC News shortly after the party stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, Gulak said they resolved to decamp because of the controversial dissolution of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party by Makarfi caretaker exco.
Reacting to Gulak’s claim, the state chairman of the party, Barrister Tahir Shehu said Gulak’s defection would be a big relief to the PDP.
He linked the failure of PDP to win the state in the last election to Gulak’s imposition of Nuhu Ribadu on the party.
He further spoke on the recent defection of the party’s deputy governorship candidate in 2015, noting that he was lured by Gov Jibrilla Bindow whom he alleged promised him APC deputy governorship slot.
But the APC SWC has commended Gulak and his supporters’ decision to cross carpet.
Speaking to TVC News, APC state secretary and organising secretary said they were not surprised that Gulak made the move, urging other PDP members to join the APC.
The outfit, Buhari/Osinbajo Again 2019 promised to work with the Gulak team to return President Buhari and his deputy to office in 2019.
The Adamawa State chapter of the PDP has been gripped by crisis since former vice president Atiku Abubakar rejoined it late last year.
