The upcoming meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump will be a “very historic and significant” occasion. This is according to the U.S. Ambassador to China, Terry Branstad.
Branstad, who took up his ambassadorial role in Beijing earlier this year, made the remarks ahead of Trump’s expected arrival on Wednesday.
Trump’s state visit to China, which is set to run from Nov. 8 to 10, will be his third meeting with President Xi.
Branstad said that the concerns on the Korean Peninsula and the issue of trade are likely to occupy the top of President Trump’s agenda for his visit to China.
The U.S. ambassador is optimistic that the mood of the visit will be quite upbeat.
