Nigeria’s Sports Minister – Solomon Dalung has assessed the country’s performance in sports since his appointment in 2015.
He described 2016 as a year in which credible achievements were recorded. Dalung noted that Nigeria has made improvements under his watch considering the historic feats some athletes achieved in the out going year.
Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri became the first African to reach the quarter finals of the Olympic table tennis event; the country’s basketball team climbed up the world ranking while the paralympic contingent amassed eight Gold medals during the paralympic games.
Dalung wants the progress to continue and says efforts are being made to ensure Nigeria’s preparation for the 2020 Olympics begin next year, three years to the start of competition.
