At least sixteen students have been confirmed dead following a tragic fire outbreak at a girls’ secondary school in Kenya.

The incident occurred at Endarasha, where a dormitory was engulfed by flames late at night while students were asleep.

Authorities say emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the fire spread rapidly, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.

Several other students sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.

Kenyan officials have described the incident as a national tragedy.

The country’s President, William Ruto, has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of young lives and has ordered a full investigation into the cause of the fire.

Preliminary reports suggest the blaze may have started in one of the boarding facilities, though the exact cause remains unknown.

Fire incidents in schools have raised recurring safety concerns in Kenya, particularly in boarding institutions where large numbers of students live in shared accommodation.

Authorities have pledged to review safety standards in schools across the country to prevent similar tragedies.
