A 103-year-old woman has died following a fire outbreak at a residential building in the Oyingbo area of Lagos.
The blaze occurred at No. 8, Bola Street, off Kadara Street, where it reportedly started in one of the rooms before spreading to other sections of the building.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident, saying the agency received a distress call via its 767/112 toll-free lines around 11:43 a.m. Responding swiftly, LASEMA deployed its emergency team from the Onipanu Base, which arrived at the scene at about 12:13 p.m.
On arrival, officials found a residential bungalow with two attached shops already engulfed in flames. The fire affected eight room-and-parlour apartments, one mini-flat, a self-contained unit, six shops, and numerous household items, with losses estimated in the millions of naira.

“The cause of the fire is yet to be determined,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu said, noting that emergency responders quickly conducted a risk assessment, cordoned off the area, and implemented measures to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.
The blaze was eventually brought under control, and the remains of the deceased were recovered and handed over to her family.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu commended the coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and officials from the Lagos Mainland Local Government for their prompt response.
