A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assumed control of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja following its reopening by the Nigeria Police Force.
The development marks a significant shift in the party’s protracted leadership crisis, which had led to the sealing of its headquarters at Wadata Plaza.
Confirming the takeover in a statement on Saturday, the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara, through its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, warned that it would not tolerate any disruption at the secretariat.
The statement cautioned that the party “will not condone any act capable of causing obstruction, disruption, or breach of peace,” adding that security agencies have been placed on alert to deal with violators.

The PDP has been embroiled in a prolonged internal crisis that escalated on November 18, when rival factions clashed at the party’s headquarters.
The faction led by Tanimu Turaki, backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, confronted the Wike-aligned group led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The dispute, which triggered months of legal battles, was eventually settled by the Court of Appeal on March 9, which ruled in favour of the Wike-backed faction and nullified the November 16 Ibadan convention endorsed by the governors.

Following the ruling, the police unsealed the party secretariat and handed control to the recognised leadership, paving the way for the Wike-aligned camp to consolidate its hold on the party’s administrative structure.
The party commended the police for what it described as professionalism and respect for due process.

“This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process,” the statement said.
The party described the development as a turning point, assuring members that recent internal challenges had been resolved.
“This positive development reassures members that the recent challenges confronting the Party have been effectively resolved. We therefore call on all aggrieved members to sheath their swords and embrace unity in the collective interest of the Party,” it stated.
The PDP also expressed appreciation to its leaders and stakeholders for their support during the crisis, singling out its National Leader, Nyesom Wike, for his role.
“In particular, we acknowledge the guidance and commitment of our National Leader, His Excellency, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, the Hon Minister of the FCT, whose support has been invaluable,” the statement added.
