Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to a results-driven security partnership with the United States following a two-day high-level engagement of the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group.

In a statement on Friday, Ribadu said he welcomed senior US government officials to Abuja, describing the sustained engagements as a reflection of a mature, trust-based relationship focused on protecting civilians, promoting religious freedom and addressing shared security challenges.

He noted that Nigeria is approaching the Working Group platform as a practical and outcomes-oriented partnership, adding that cooperation with the United States has moved beyond dialogue to tangible results since late 2025.

“Cooperation has strengthened coordination, accountability and our collective capacity to counter violent threats while upholding the protection of civilians,” Ribadu said.

The National Security Adviser also highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership in driving decisive national action against insecurity, combining security operations, justice sector reforms, early-warning systems and data-driven accountability.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to frank dialogue, measurable progress and a partnership centred on outcomes, trust and protection for all communities.

The US–Nigeria Joint Working Group was established to deepen bilateral cooperation on security, counter-terrorism and religious freedom, following growing international concern over violence affecting vulnerable communities in Nigeria.
