The Youth Wing of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has launched free Internet connectivity ahead of the coming general elections in the the state.

The connections will be situated at strategic areas in the state.

This, they say, will guard against manipulations and ensure over 200,000 persons have access to internet within the areas of coverage during the presidential and gubernatorial exercises.

Data released by the Independent National Electoral Commission indicates that the youth population constitutes the greatest number of registered voters in the 2023 general election with over 75milion.

The elections would be technology-driven in line with current Electoral Act 2022 which duly incorporates the use of technology in the process.

The Peoples Democratic Party Youths are working round the clock to make the election rancour-free hence launching of the free WiFi.

This they said will enable the masses to closely monitor the elections online and have factual information on the progress of the polls in various locations.

PDP stakeholders in the state believe that the free connectivity will form the catalyst for an informed and educated society.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate who lauded the initiative said that the internet facilities will also keep the youths busy as well as acquaint them with new information technology.

It is expected that more than 200, 000 persons will benefit from the internet connectivity, to be accessed in 36 locations at different points in Taraba State.

NATIONAL ANTI SMALL ARMS PROLIFERATION CENTRE TO IMPOSE SEVERE SANCTIONS ON IMPORTERS OF ILLEGAL SMALL ARMS

The proliferation of Illicit small arms and light weapons remains a huge security challenge facing the country.

Now Officials of the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) say they will not fold their arms and watch the country get flooded with illicit arms.

They promise to clamp down on offenders and institute litigation against facilitators.

Coordinator of the center Major Gen. Abba Dikko stated this while on a courtesy visit to the Kaduna state Government

The proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons has become a major source of vulnerability in our society.

It stands out as a key driver of violent conflict, crime and terrorism within and beyond the Nigerian borders.

The failure of the global community to control its flow has continued to undermine national security and significantly hinder development in African countries as seen in some regions in northern Nigeria.

National Coordinator of the Nigerian center for control of small arms and light weapons is promising to clamp down on offenders.

The center also applied and has been given a plot of land for the development of the North west zonal office in Kaduna.

Mr Dikko insists that the Ecowas treaty of free trade won’t be accepted as a excuse for the movement of illicit arms into the county

Kaduna state government officials pledge to give the commission their full support.

Nigeria is the 14th among the 15 member countries of Ecowas to set up an agency to control illicit arms flow.

The center came into being in 2021 and a bill is currently at National Assembly seeking to make it a full fledged institution backed by law.
