Nigeria women’s national football team have intensified preparations for next month’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, using a two-match friendly series against Cameroon to sharpen tactics and build cohesion.

The African champions opened camp in Yaoundé this week and held their first training session on Wednesday at the annex of the Stade Omnisport Ahmadu Ahidjo.

On Thursday, the team switched to the main pitch as preparations gathered momentum under head coach Justine Madugu.

A total of 20 players participated in Thursday’s session, with more arrivals boosting the squad depth.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, centre-back Osinachi Ohale and forward Chiwendu Ihezuo were all expected in camp later that night.

Wing-back Chidinma Okeke and midfielder Halimat Ayinde are due to join the squad on Friday.

The staggered arrivals are expected to give the technical crew a near-full complement of players ahead of the first encounter.

Nigeria will take on the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon on Saturday, with the reverse fixture scheduled for Tuesday next week.

Both matches will be played at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé.

The double-header offers Madugu’s side a crucial opportunity to test combinations, assess match fitness and fine-tune strategies before the continental showpiece in Morocco.
