Operations at Seplat Energy have stalled as workers commenced an indefinite strike following a breakdown in negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement and welfare concerns.

The industrial action, led by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), began on Friday, with the union confirming that its Seplat branch had withdrawn services across the company’s operations.

General Secretary of PENGASSAN, Jerry Amah, disclosed to TheCable that the strike was triggered by failed talks with management over the 2026 agreement and unresolved staff welfare issues.

According to reports by Reuters, the union directed its members to halt most operational activities, including production reporting and crude export processes, while maintaining only essential safety and power functions.

The action, described as “until further notice,” is said to affect Seplat’s onshore and offshore assets, joint-venture operations, as well as offices nationwide.

However, Reuters indicated that junior workers under a separate union are not participating in the strike.

The development also recalls a similar labour dispute in 2025 involving PENGASSAN and the Dangote refinery, which led to a strike that temporarily paralysed the downstream sector before it was suspended on October 1, 2025.
