Tension briefly gripped parts of Shaare, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Sunday evening following a gunfire exchange between suspected bandits and security operatives.

Eyewitness accounts say the armed men engaged security personnel, including the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with forest guards and other local security outfits, leading to the successful repulsion of the attackers.

Local security sources confirm that the assailants clashed with the combined security forces in a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted for about one hour.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:30 p.m., close to the Ifelodun Local Government Secretariat.

Security officials say the coordinated response of the joint forces forced the attackers to retreat.

There are no confirmed cases of abduction or casualties as a result of the incident.
