Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Ipalibo Banigo, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), increasing the number of APC lawmakers in the Senate.

The announcement was made by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during Tuesday’s plenary.

Speaking with Senate correspondents shortly after the sitting, Senator Banigo said her decision was influenced by what she described as the massive infrastructural development drive of the Bola Tinubu administration, noting that her senatorial district has also benefited from ongoing projects.

The lawmaker also praised the administration’s economic policies, which she said have helped stabilise the naira and improve the socio-economic well-being of Nigerians.

Senator Banigo further commended President Tinubu for what she called his fatherly role in the political affairs of Rivers State, saying his intervention has helped stabilise democracy and strengthen the rule of law in the state.

She also described the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as a role model, applauding her advocacy for women and girls’ empowerment, which she said has positively impacted many Nigerians.
