The National Cereals Research Institute says that Nigeria has the capacity to produce sufficient rice to meet local demand.
Its Director, Samuel Agboire said in Badeggi that only sufficient farming inputs, cheap credit facilities and markets were necessary.

The director general added that all tiers of government must embark on massive construction of feeder roads to open up the hinterlands for farming.
He said that farmers should be motivated through the provision of modern farming implements at subsidized rates.
