The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, has congratulated the new acting Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, describing his career as a masterclass in dedication, unwavering patriotism, and strategic brilliance.
In a congratulatory message signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaye, Oba Owoade said the elevation of Disu is a resounding testament to his unyielding dedication, unparalleled professionalism, and sterling integrity.
Oba Owoade expressed that, taking over the goodwill and liability of the Nigeria Police Force as the new acting Inspector General of Police, he could only wish him an emphatic success in office, as his success or otherwise will have a serious impact on the ordinary people on the street and the country as a whole.
Alaafin said, “As you settle down, sir, I urge you to be professional and write your name in gold by giving us the new police Nigerians are craving for, in order for the police to gain the trust of the society
“Your career has been a shining beacon of courage and resilience. It is a call to service that you are exceptionally prepared for. It is expected that your leadership will bridge the gap between the Police and the community, fostering a safer, more secure, and citizen-friendly environment.”
The Monarch further stated that “You have consistently chosen service over self, setting a high standard for integrity and courage. Your dedication, discipline, and hard work have paid off in this well-deserved appointment.

“As you step into this commanding role, may your leadership continue to prioritise the protection of the innocent and the steadfast upholding of the rule of law. The nation looks to you for a safer tomorrow. As you take the helm, I am confident that your strategic vision will steer the Nigeria Police Force toward a new era of proactive policing, enhanced security, and public trust.”
The Paramount Ruler observed that for the Nigeria Police to engender trust and encourage crime reporting, the new acting Inspector-General of Police must oversee the safeguarding of the fundamental rights of all citizens.
Consequently, he urged the new Acting IGP to establish effective human rights desks across all stations, commands, and zonal commands nationwide.
These desks, he noted, should be manned by qualified personnel specifically mandated to address cases of human rights abuses.
The Alaafin also congratulated the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, describing his time as distinguished service to the nation, referencing his “decades of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening internal security.”
