Attempts by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria to stage a religious procession in Abuja did not quite succeed as the tight police security forced the gathering Shiites to disperse.
But a top member of the IMN, Abdulai Musa, said the procession was held in Wuse market at 8:00 am lasted for thirty minutes.
IMN had on Monday petitioned the Human Rights Commission, United Nations and the European Union over Tuesday’s Ashura procession which it claimed that the police are preparing to disrupt and attack it members.
It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police directed Commissioners in all the States of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, to put in place concrete measures to avert any planned procession by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.
