Suspected bandits have attacked Kurfa community in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting an unspecified number of residents and leaving several others injured.
The Zamfara State Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred on April 2, 2026, at about 1:28 p.m., following information received from the Divisional Police Officer in Bukuyum.
According to a statement issued on April 4 by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the attackers, who were heavily armed, stormed the community in large numbers and operated for an extended period, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents.
“As a result of the attack, an unspecified number of persons were abducted and taken to an undisclosed location while others scamperred and fled for safety,” the statement said.

The police said a joint security team comprising operatives, the military and other agencies responded swiftly to a distress call and moved to the scene, although the assailants had fled before their arrival.
“The suspect who fled before the arrival of security personnel are giving a hot chazed by the tactical teams and Some residents who escaped into surrounding areas were intercepted and rushed to hospital for treatment,” the statement added.
The command noted that efforts are ongoing to determine the exact number of abducted persons, while rescue operations have been intensified.
It also assured residents of continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to track down the perpetrators and restore security in the area.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, adding that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
