Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have thwarted a cattle rustling attempt in Damba area of the state, recovering all stolen livestock and returning them to their owners.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday at about 2:20 a.m., when a group of armed men suspected to be cattle rustlers stormed Sunami area of Damba with the intention of carting away a large number of cattle.
According to a statement by the Zamfara State PPRO, Yazid Abubakar, the breakthrough came after a resident provided credible information to authorities around 2:30 a.m. Acting on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer in Damba quickly mobilised the division’s search and rescue team to the scene.

The operatives engaged in a coordinated pursuit of the suspects, forcing them to abandon the cattle and flee. The entire herd was subsequently recovered intact.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the officers for what he described as their gallantry, swift response and professionalism in handling the situation.
He also called on residents to sustain cooperation with security agencies by volunteering timely and useful information, assuring that the command remains resolute in tackling cattle rustling and other forms of criminality across the state.
Cattle rustling has been a persistent security challenge in parts of Zamfara, with authorities intensifying surveillance and rapid response efforts to curb the crime.
