The body of Gambia’s opposition leader, Solo Sandeng, who died in custody during Yahya Jammeh’s regime has been found.
Sandeng’s body was found on Thursday near the western coastal village of Tanji.
Sandeng was arrested last April for leading a protest that called for electoral reforms, but went missing and died in custody shortly thereafter.
Gambian Police spokesman Foday Conta said police discovered the burial site based on testimonies by detained national intelligence agency officials, who had worked under Jammeh.
The body is to undergo forensic investigation at a hospital in the capital, Banjul.
