The Lagos State Police Command has detained a driver over the alleged killing of a student of Lagos State University (LASU) in a fatal motor accident in the Igando area of the state.
A video went viral on Saturday, shared by a LASU student with an X username, @Khennybass, and reposted by the state police command, which captured some students of the university at the gate of the Area M Police Division.
The students alleged that police officers were shielding the driver involved and attempting to cover up the incident.
The students are demanding justice for the deceased.
Reacting to the video, the Command disclosed in a statement posted on its official X handle, @ Lagos Police NG, late Saturday, noting that it had commenced an investigation into the incident.

The statement reads, “The Command is aware of the incident, which is a fatal motor accident. Following the report, the DPO Igando promptly visited the scene. The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary, while the driver involved is in Police custody. The vehicle has also been impounded for further investigation. The case has since been transferred to the Area Command.”
The Command assures the public that all necessary legal actions will be taken in accordance with the law.
The Command further urges members of the public to remain calm.
