The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old suspect linked to the killing of a six-year-old girl and recovered the victim’s head from him in Oyo State.

In a Sunday statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the tragic incident occurred on April 11, 2026, in Adigun Village, Olorunda Ogunsola area of Ibadan, the state capital.

Police authorities disclosed that the suspect, identified as Sodiq Kayode Akorede, was apprehended following credible intelligence linking him to the unlawful killing of the minor, Mutiyatu Sunday.

He stated that, acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the immediate deployment of operatives to the scene.

The Police said officers responded promptly and, despite resistance from an irate mob, carried out the arrest professionally while also securing key evidence.

Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, indicate that the suspect allegedly carried out the act and was found in possession of evidence connected to the crime.

The Police further revealed that the suspect had confessed during interrogation and had been taken to a medical facility for treatment after sustaining injuries during the mob attack.

He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The Command also cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, warning that mob actions could hinder proper investigation and justice.
