The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Muttaka Dalhatu, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside members of his executive committee and several ward chairmen.

The defectors were formally received on Wednesday at the Abuja residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Alhaji Dalhatu said the decision to leave the PDP was taken after extensive consultations, citing what he described as dissatisfaction with the performance of the current PDP-led administration in Zamfara State, particularly on security.

He said the group was motivated by Matawalle’s record while serving as governor, noting that the former governor made significant efforts to address security challenges during his tenure.

Dalhatu alleged that the present administration had failed to fulfil key campaign promises, especially in the area of security, and accused it of focusing more on political battles than governance.

According to him, the defectors resolved not to be associated with what he described as attempts to discredit Matawalle for political reasons.

“As indigenes of Maradun, we will not be part of any effort to undermine the reputation of our son, who has contributed to the development and stability of the state,” he said.

He added that the decision of the entire local government PDP structure to defect was based on their belief that Matawalle offers more experienced and dependable political leadership.

Among those who defected alongside Dalhatu were the Maradun PDP Secretary, Alhaji Sani Ibrahim JB Danbaza; a former State Assembly aspirant, Hon. Bashar Muhammad Danbaza; the PDP Chairman of Damaga Ward, Mallam Umar Attahiru; and the PDP Youth Leader of Gora Namaye Ward, Hon. Zayyanu Yakubu.

He said arrangements were being made to receive additional PDP members in the coming days.

Welcoming the defectors, Matawalle congratulated them on joining the APC, describing the party as inclusive and committed to the welfare of its members.

He assured them of equal opportunities within the party and pledged that the APC would provide the necessary support to enable them to contribute meaningfully to its growth and success.

Matawalle thanked the new members for their support and solidarity, saying he remained appreciative of their confidence and loyalty.
